Is there a senior discount?

Collection for all material occurs between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday - Friday, once per week.

What methods of payment do you accept by phone?
Garbage services are billed through the Santa Clara County Secured Property Tax Bill. Please visit Home | Department of Tax and Collections | County of Santa Clara (santaclaracounty.gov) for information or dial 311/call (408) 535-3500 for information. Garden City Sanitation Customer service does not handle billing of any kind.
Can my roll-off be placed in my driveway?

How many bags can I place out?
Please call Garden City Sanitation at (408)988-4500 if you will need to have more than 8 bags out so we can properly schedule pickup.
Place extra garbage in a 32-gallon plastic garbage bag labeled with an extra garbage sticker on the curb near the garbage cart. Extra garbage stickers may be purchased for $6.25 at all San José libraries, Lucky, and Safeway stores or at the Cashier window on the first floor of San José City Hall. A portion of the sales from stickers sold at San José libraries supports library programs. Cash, check, and credit card are accepted at all locations (libraries are cash/check only). If you frequently have extra garbage, you may need to order a larger garbage cart.

How often is recycling picked up?

Someone is illegally dumping in my container, who do I contact?
Please contact your local Police Inspection Office to report any illegal dumping in your container.

How do I get my broken cart repaired/replaced?
To address the issue with your broken Garbage cart, visit sanjoseca.gov/311 and see Residential Garbage & Recycling Services. You may also dial 3-1-1 or call (408) 535-3500 to report missed collections, damaged containers, service issues, or to change your container size. For all other inquiries, contact Garden City Sanitation customer service at (408) 988-4500.
Do you sell containers?
No, we typically provide containers as part of our service.
I have extra trash I would like to set out tomorrow. Is there a charge for that and what are the guidelines?

Where should I set my trash carts?
•Set out all carts no later than 6 a.m. on your collection day, and no earlier than the day before.
•Place carts side-by-side in the street, 2’ apart and with wheels against the curb.
•Do not overfill carts; lids must be completely closed to prevent spillage and litter.
•Keep all carts 5’ away from anything that may block the collection truck, including yard trimmings piles, parked cars, and basketball hoops.
